The highest paid DJ’s of 2017 made a combined total of $298 million! Needless to say, here at Bloke, we are a bit baffled how much these guys make. So much so even Google is giving it a go at spinning decks with their daily doodle;
So, Who are the highest paid DJ’s?
1. Calvin Harris ($48,500,000)
Calvin Harris is the highest paid DJ of 2017 coming in at making $48,500,000 per year. Is he really worth that kind of cash? His songs are a mix of chords hints of disco style EDM. He doesn’t always get you jumping to the next big sound and many of his tunes have a very similar formula to them. But his success cannot be argued. His hits still appeal to the underground EDM folk yet still appeal to the masses where the money is made. From one bloke to another, a talented DJ making a tonne of cash!
2. Tiesto ($39,000,000)
Tiesto is the second highest paid DJ of 2017, coming in at $39,000,000 per year. Quite impressive from the 48-year-old. Still banging out club classics like it was 1997! But what makes this DJ so good and what has made him last the test of time? His achievements include a Grammy, numerous MTV awards, and performing at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Therefore it is safe to say that this bloke is a bit of a DJ legend who still to this date produces some great beats!
He has even been included as being one of ‘The Greatest DJ’s Of All Time’ in 2011 as well as holding the 2nd spot of the best dance track of all time! He has worked with superstars such as Kanye West, Coldplay, and Katy Perry to name a few. But arguably his most popular track of all time in Ireland has to be the infamous “Adagio for Strings” which was released over 10 years ago in 2004 and still remains a club classic!
3. The Chainsmokers ($38,000,000)
The Chainsmokers come in third place making a total of $38,000,000. This Duo from America broke through in 2014 with their song “#Selfie” which was a top twenty single all around the world.
4. Skrillex ($30,000,000)
Not bad for Skrillex making $30,000,000 bringing them into fourth place in the list of the richest DJ’s of 2017. Sucks to those haters back in 2011 who wrote over 1,485 posts on an underground forum on why they hate the guy so much. Probably because he was an Emo looking bloke from Los Angelos where this music was originally an underground UK genre. Lesson learned, forget the haters! I’ll take that advice if it makes me that kind of cash any day!
5. Steve Aoki ($29,500,000)
Steve Aoki despite making a huge wallet of cash he’s a pretty decent bloke who has set up the Aoki foundation to support brain science and research on regenerative medicine and brain preservation. Their vision is to one day see the world where degenerative brain diseases do not exist. Thumbs up to Aoki and whether or not you like his music. You have to appreciate his philanthropy.
6. Diplo ($28,500,000)
Starting out playing concerts in local colleges Diplo was obsessed how the internet held no boundaries to getting music accessible worldwide with the use of Youtube and underground internet streaming sites. Apart from running a successful music label, Mad Decent, Diplo has done beats for the likes of Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, and Madonna. Easy to admit that this wealthy DJ hasn’t just got beats up his sleeve but also a strong business acumen, bringing his total earnings to $28,500,000 putting him well on the list as one of the highest paid DJ’s of 2017.
7. David Guetta ($25,000,000)
David Guetta, makes the list coming in at $25,000,000. Starting out well back into the 80’s playing in local clubs around France. A typical DJ who started out his career mixing popular songs up as a mash-up until he finally made the move to producing his own music in the early 2000’s. However, it wasn’t until 2009 until he made the international scene with his track “When love takes over” with Kelly Rowland peaking #1 on the UK Singles Chart selling over 5,5 million copies worldwide!
8. Marshmello ($21,000,000)
Turning up to gigs in a puffy white mask, Marshmello made $21,000,000 in 2017. This is literally 2 years after his remixes of Jack Ü and Zedd hit the mainstream.
9. Martin Garrix ($19,500,000)
Martijn Gerard Garritsen, known professionally Martin Garrix, a Dutch DJ, record producer and musician and only 21. In fact when that monster of a hit Torrent back in 2013 was actually the brainchild of Tiesto!
$19,500,000 later Martin Garrix went on to become officially the best DJ in the world in 2016. Good spot Tiesto, what a way to bring in talent and get bumped down a list all in just a couple of years!
10. Zedd ($19,000,000)
Finally, Zedd in 2017 makes this list coming in at $19,000,000. Not too shabby from Russian-German musician, DJ, songwriter and record producer. So there you have it, the highest paid DJ’s of 2017.
