A cannabis church in Colorado has opened its doors to the public and their slogan is epic;

Love, Create, Elevate! Amen!

Since medical marijuana has passed the Daíl in Ireland back in December 2016 It’s probably not long until this trend of cannabis churches takes off;

Looking from the outside in, apart from the spray painted galaxies and bright, happy-face planets, this cannabis church looks pretty normal.

The artistry in this church come from the famous Kenny Scharf. See him in action below and bringing this vision into reality;

A mission dedicated to the sacred plant

The church has been set up by Elevation Ministries, a non-profit company whose mission is to “offer a home to adults everywhere who are looking to create the best version of themselves by way of the sacred plant”!

But unlike your standard church, this cannabis church has a bit more of a comfortable set up;

How did this church end up like this?

This idea was the brainchild of a group of friends who were temporarily living in an old derelict church. After a couple of spliffs, the lads thought, “Holy smoke, what if we could turn this into a cannabis church”. Can’t say this was the weirdest ever statement ever said after a big long green one, but, on the 20th of April 2016, after convincing their parents this would be a good investment (After doping them, we would guess) they opened the doors to the worlds first ever weed chapel, which is also a video game arcade.

Is this the solution to the decline in church attendance?

With mass attendance predicted to drop by another third by 2030 it could be argued that this revelation in practising faith could appeal to the younger demographics and appeal to people who simply can’t relate to organised religion or outright oppose it on principle.

“Being able to explore your own path, within a supportive space, could help fill that widening spiritual deficit.”

Unfortunately, despite the psychedelic colours, the improved smell of incense, this might just all end up in smoke as there are various people opposed to the idea in addition to cannabis for recreational use a bit taboo here in Ireland.
